Our Story

The Mitchell Group was formed in 2008 following the sale of the family's Australian drilling operations — the culmination of nearly four decades building one of Australia's leading drilling businesses, expanding from domestic operations into Indonesia, India, China, Russia, the United States and Africa.

After the sale, Nathan Mitchell established Mitchell Group as a private investment vehicle — with a clear purpose: to invest more widely and actively across the resources and energy supply chains the family knew intimately. The expertise, networks and operational instincts built over nearly four decades in the field became the foundation of a new model. Not a fund. Not passive capital. A family office with the conviction and capability to found, back and build businesses across the full supply chain.

Exploration and drilling remains a significant part of the business, with companies bearing the Mitchell name now operating over 130 rigs across 10 countries — through Mitchell Services (ASX:MSV) and Mitchell Drilling International.

Today, Mitchell Group employs over 900 people across Australia and internationally, with a portfolio spanning critical minerals exploration, natural gas infrastructure, battery energy storage, AI compute and digital infrastructure — in Australia, Africa, Canada, Sweden and the United States.
